Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man (Cruse IOM) is a charity that provides emotional and practical support for adults and children and young people who have been bereaved.

Cruse IOM is looking to appoint a part-time Young Person’s Bereavement Support Specialist to deliver structured one-to-one and group bereavement support primarily to young people (between the ages of 11–18), their families and the professionals with whom they have contact. There may be occasions where there is a need to support younger children.

This role includes identifying and delivering an individual programme of appropriate bereavement support for young people bereaved of someone important in their life. You will be practised in child protection, information sharing and the rules around GDPR and will lead by example, drawing on your own professional experience and working within established Cruse IOM guidelines. Providing bereavement support to children and families, you understand processes of grief, loss, change and ongoing impact on life chances.

Applicants will have a relevant qualification in working with children and young people—for example counselling, health or education and have at least 3 years’ experience of working with children and young people. Additionally, you will be expected to complete relevant training to gain accreditation through Cruse IOM. You will have a good understanding of issues which may arise as the result of bereavement and you will have demonstrated practical, therapeutic and immediate interventions.

Good assessment skills and a willingness to work flexible hours and occasional weekends are also required. Access to a vehicle is essential, for which the appropriate mileage rate will be paid. The post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The successful candidate must be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people. In return, we can offer the successful applicant a competitive remuneration package.
